Friday Funday :-)
Everyone needs a break and everyone deserves some fun! Due to the testing in the computer lab today, we were able to choose a Friday "Funday" activity. What did your child choose? Have a great weekend! <3 Mrs. Fitz
Our Tree Planting!
Our class witnessed history in the making! We planted an Autumn Blaze Maple tree by the baseball field today. Students learned how to plant a tree and properly take care of it. We hope this tree grows big and tall (about 50-60 feet) and provides some wonderful shade for future Iowa-Grant students and baseball audiences!

Tips from the Teacher :-)

It's that time of year where so many things run through my head! Here's my list of dates/items I need to share with you:
1. No school this coming Monday (May 2). It is a teacher professional day! Enjoy!
2. Grandparent's Day Thank Yous will come home Friday. Please make sure the letters get to their respectful owners (their grandparents) :-). There will be an extra photo copy for your child to keep.
3. We are currently growing Lima beans and sunflowers in our classroom window. After exploring the plant life cycle, our Painted Lady butterfly caterpillars will arrive! This will cover our science time until the end of the year.
4. I will do one more pull out test with the students. We will do PALS testing (Phonological Awareness Literacy Screening) on Wednesday, May 11th. There will be a substitute teacher in the room that day.
5. Our reading textbook will take us to the end of the school year, but we will complete the math lessons from our book next week. I plan to extend our last unit about arrays into one digit multiplication. Be on the lookout for homework that looks a little different. We will also do some reviewing! So much to do in grade two!
6. Our newest book order will be due next Friday, May 6th. There is no obligation to buy, but I know we have several summer birthdays coming up! Books make great gifts! You can order online here: https://clubs2.scholastic.com/ Our classroom code is: NTLQ7
I have more thoughts in my head, but I'll keep it to that. Please stay tuned to blog posts, notes in folders, and the weekly newsletters. This time of the school year is very busy!

Family is Forever :-)
What a wonderful afternoon! Grandparents, thank you for spending time with us. Love is the greatest gift that one generation can leave to another.

Grandparent's Day!
It would be fine to have your child leave school for the day after the program with his/her grandparent. Many of you already gave me permission to let your child leave (on the pink rsvp letter I sent with all grandparent's day materials), but if you have not, please send a note to school as soon as possible. Grandparents will then sign them out on a clipboard I will have at the program (they will NOT have to go to the office). Thanks in advance for your cooperation and communication!
You can watch our Grandparent's Day video from the comfort of your own home! Just click on the URL code below:

In honor of fairness and sportsmanship, we plan to wear our favorite sports apparel on Friday! Join in on the fun!
Reminder: Family Pasta Night (Playground fundraiser) is this Thursday, March 31. I hope to see you there!

Helping Others
2nd Graders at Iowa-Grant Schools assembled "project packages" for sick children at the Children's hospital in Madison. Patients will receive packages with all the supplies they need to make a craft. Our class assembled the parts for children to make rabbits for Easter. We hope these packages bring joy and love to other children who are not as fortunate as we are.

PLAYGROUND FUNDRAISER
On March 31st, we are planning a pasta supper and movie night to raise money for the playground! Please look for an invite in your child's book bag tonight with more information.
In addition to the pasta and movie, we would like to have each homeroom create a basket to raffle off during the evening. We are asking each homeroom or grade level to come up with a theme, and then ask for the students to bring an item for the basket. Tickets will then be sold that night and the winners’ names will be drawn at the end of the movie. We can’t wait to see how creative our students can get!
Please bring in any items you would take to the beach! Here are some ideas:
-sunscreen
-beach towels
-sunglasses
-hat
-flip flops
-swimming toys
-goggles
-floaties
-snacks
etc!
Thank you for your support!

My apologies for no weekly news last week! I was home with Beckem. Both of his grandparents decided to go on vacation at the same time. We had a great weekend, but I'm excited to be back at school. We will finish our dinosaur research papers, make a dinosaur using our creative juices, and finish our dinosaur posters in computer class. Have a great week!

P.S.- Please turn in your grandparent photos ASAP! I have about 1/4 of the pictures in!

Hello Families! The Fitz Family is doing an awesome job of preparing for the show! I know you will enjoy every minute!
Here are a few reminders:
1. Please be aware of how your child is dressed. They may need some reminders of how and where they can play at recess for the concert day! (I will remind them as well.)
2. You can park by the cafeteria doors or in the front starting at 1:30.
3. I do need a note telling me what your child is doing after the concert. If you have NOT yet informed me, please reply to this email or write down your child's plan.
4. All 2nd grade is on top of the stage, on the center risers. The Fitz Family in particular, is dead center!
5. After the show, please come back to our classroom to pick up your child if you are taking them home. I will have a sign out sheet sitting outside my door, so you don't have to wait in the office to sign out. I would love it if you would say a quick goodbye before you leave!
6. Enjoy the show!! Let me know if you have any questions.
